Early Mage Dueling:

"Dueling as a mage in the lower levels (15-30) should be quite easy. Line up 2-3 skills in the action slot. Try using combos such as Fire > Wind > Wind or Water > Lightning > Lightning. This should take out most of your enemies easily. Ice Missle can be helpful since it slows attack speed for a few seconds. Acro's dont have Dark Illusion yet so they can't hide from you. Make sure to target your enemy before the duel. If they are a melee class, run when the counter says (3). Using these strategies should let you win 90% of your duels if you don't duel people too much higher than you.

After level 30, duels get harder. Mercs get more hp, Assists can start stunlocking with stonehand since its higher level now, and acros, your worst enemy, now have Dark Illusion(DI).

First, we'll talk about the acros. Since they have DI, they can go invisible at the beginning of the duel, which they probably will. When dueling a DI using acro, go close to the edge of the Arena Stage (the raised part). When they use DI, use blinkpool to the bottom row. They will lose you as their target so they can't hit you until they find you. Even once they find you, if they stayed on the Stage, they will get the "Cannot Attack Because Of the Obstacle" message. Run back up the stairs, retarget them and open your action slot. Springwater is one of the best skills you can use since it has no homing shot to activate. It hits them immediatly. If they DI while you're casting it, it can even hit them once during DI.
You may not know this but mages CAN target acros while they're in DI, go to options and change the interface to Ver. 1 (old). in this version you can use the action slot with the right click, then when the acro DIs right click to where you think they are (using follow mode before hand helps) and the action slot will blow their butt to kingdom come. (Thank you very much minizaki!) If they call cheating on you, say you won't do that if they dont DI They'll never notice. Also, hot air will reveal where they are. Use it if possible.

(Ignore those numbers) You'll be using Springwater (across 4, down 3), Blinkpool (a1, d2),
Fire Strike (a4, d0), and sometimes Hot Air (a3, d0). Hot air for revealing their position in DI, Fire Strike as a combo with Springwater and blinkpool to hide.

Next are the mercs. They have higher HP than the acros, so they'll take some more patience(mentally, not the buff) to kill. For them, i would line up 3-4 skills in your action slot. If you're really nervous, line up 5, but you're pretty much dead if you dont kill them after this. Since they have to get close to hit you, you can use the blinkpool technique. If you dont like that or you don't have blinkpool, you can run to the bottom row. Since they have to follow you to hit you, you can get the first hit when they drop to the bottom ring with you. They're pretty easy to beat besides their health.

Finally, Assists. They can buff themselves and they have Stonehand. The buffs make them stronger, give them more hp, and make them faster. This shouldn't stop you. If they are full int, they probably won't duel you. If they aren't full int, then their buffs probably aren't as long lasting so if you can, run them out. They either fight without them or try to rebuff. Now, let's talk about Stonehand. It gives them a chance to stun you and you can't attack while stunned. Once you're locked, you'll have a hard time fighting back. You can use the same techniques as fighting a Merc, but don't put as many skills in the action slot since they don't usually have the same hp as a merc.
